BANGI, 8 Feb. 2012 – The Malaysian National University (UKM) silat group C garnering 24 points became the runner-up among the Institutions of Higher Learning (IPT) in the 4^th Taming Sari IPT and International Invitation Silat Championship Festival here last week.
Polytechnic Ungku Omar was the champion among IPT with the Mara Technology University (UiTM) as the second runner-up.
Team A of the Malaysian Armed Forces was the champion in the open category with 39 points. Kumpulan PUSAKA Perak came in second with Seni Silat Gayung Malaysia third.
Nurhaniza Nordin from UKM was judged as the most promising silat exponent with Mohd Faiz Noh from National Defense University of Malaysia was judged the best silat exponent.
The one week championship and festival held at the Tun Abdul Razak Hall (Dectar) in the UKM campus here ended last Sunday. A total of 35 teams including an invitation team from the Yala Sports School in Thailand took part. It was organized by UKM students headed by Mohd Afiq Ahmad.
UKM was represented by four teams including one from its alumni and won three golds, five silvers and 10 bronze medals.
The prizes were handed over to the winners by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student and Alumni Affairs), Prof Ir Dr Othman A. Karim last Sunday. Director of the UKM Sports Centre, Dr Tajul Arifin Muhamad was present.
