UKMMC Patients Welfare Fund Received Donations From The Lion Group

KUALA LUMPUR, 2 July 2012 – The National University of Malaysia Medical Centre (UKMMC) Patients Welfare Fund has disbursed a total of RM223,983 to 29 of its patients during the first six months of the year.
Its Director, Prof Dato’ Dr Raymond Azman Ali wo is also the Dean of the Medical Faculty of UKM said the assistance given were to cover the cost of medical equipment including orthopeadic, cardio and ENT implants for them.
Prof Raymond gave the figures when receiving a donation of RM448,036.80 from the Lion Group Medical Assistance Fund (LGMAF) for the UKMMC’s Patients Welfare Fund.
A cheque for the amount was handed over by Chairman of the LGMAF Board of Trustees, Puan Sri Datin Coleen Herbert to Prof Raymond. Puan Sri Herbert said LGMAF was set up in 1995 to collect donations to help patients especially those inflicted with serious illnesses and needed intensive care.
It has since then disbursed about RM6million to assist 760 patients meet the cost of their medical care. Last year it assisted 67 patients to meet the cost of their medical treatment mostly at UKMMC.
The strategic partnership between UKMMC and LGMAF began in 2000 with UKMMC’s patients being the biggest beneficiaries of its funds, Puan Sri Herbert said.
Deputy Dean of the Medical Faculty, Heads of Departments of UKMMC, representatives of LGMAF and patients and their families were present at the ceremony.
