Cricketer And Silat Exponent Crowned UKM’s Best Athletes

BANGI, 27 Mar 2013 – A cricketer and a silat exponent were today crowned as The National University of Malaysia’s (UKM) best male and female student athletes for 2012.
They are Mohd Nur Syafiq Mohd Sharif from the Faculty of Education who is on the UKM champion cricket team and A’ain Hidayah Ahmad Fua’ad from the university’s silat team and is with the Faculty of Science and Technology.
The best male athlete in the staff category was won by Muhd Muqlis Borhan from UKM Medical Centre for Sepak Takraw while best female athlete went to Junaidah Omar for Pencak Silat.
The winners received a trophy, a certificate and RM1000 cash. A total of 20 categories were contested. Only those selected to represent the country in their respective sports qualify to be considered for the awards.
National diver who represented Malaysia at the London Olympics last year, Bryan Lomas, was present to share his experiences as a national athlete.
Secretary of Sports Division of the Ministry of Higher Education, Dr Shaharudin Ismail; Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof Ir Dr Othman bin A. Karim and Director of UKM Sports Centre, Dr Tajul Arifin Muhammad were present.
