Group – Biodiversity and Biotechnology Governance
INTRODUCTION
Biodiversity and Biotechnology Governance group is devoted to the evolving body of law and policy concerning industrial biotechnology, particularly international regulation of biotechnology, biotechnology research involving animal and/or human subjects including cloning and stem cell research, patents and patent litigation, agricultural regulatory affairs, biopiracy and bioprospecting, licensing and collaborations, finance.
Its specific objective is to identify, quantify and control potential legal risks relating to biotech patent and related issues through proactive facilities, methods, tools or systems.
RESEARCH FOCUS
The research focus covers the following areas:
- Patent related issues (biotechnology research involving animal and/or human subjects including cloning and stem cell research, patents and patent litigation biosafety, bioethics, social impact)
- Biodiversity issues (agricultural regulatory affairs, biopiracy and bioprospecting, sovereign rights of biological resources, access and benefit sharing)
- Corporate governance issues (licensing and collaborations, Islamic financing, commercialization of biotech inventions)
