Group – Molecular Crop Improvement
INTRODUCTION
Molecular crop improvement research group conducts research that integrates biochemical, molecular and transgenic approaches with the aim of enhancing the agronomic performance of selected crop plants.
The main objectives of the group are:
- To establish and integrate expertise in plant science from UKM for tailoring crop with an agronomic important traits
- To develop facilities for plant biotechnology research
RESEARCH FOCUS
Our group focuses on several research areas:
- Isolation and characterization of candidate genes involved in fruit ripening and abiotic stress responses
- Investigation of gene and promoter functions through transgenic platform
- Development of genetic transformation and regeneration system for low land tomato, rice and papaya
- Functional analysis of transgenic plants
