Guidelines for patient registration at Obstretics and Gynecology Clinic

To all patients who would like to register as ‘new patient’ and process booking to give birth in PPUKM needs to undergo ‘Pre-Registration”.

Please bring along a referral letter from Hospital/Clinic/Health Center as nurses will assist in giving out an appointment date.

What to bring on your first appointment?

PPUKM appointment card (if any)
Warrant letter/Pensioner’s Card/OKU Card (if any)
Identification card
A complete patient information form
Payment for new registration, medicine and treatments (for paying patients)

What to pack in your hospital bag?

Antenatal Record Book
Medication taken during pregnancy (if any)
Toiletries
Food, thermos and eating utensils
Anti-slip slippers
Baby bag which includes baby’s clothes, gloves and hats- available at O&G Clinic to purchase
Atleast 4 sets of baby’s dressing clothes
Disposable diapers
Baby’s blanket
Baby wipes

*** Patients are NOT ALLOWED to bring infant milk formula.
This is in line with PPUKM Breastfeeding Policy and
as Baby-Friendly Hospital

Visiting guidelines

Family members are not allowed to wait for patient in O&G wards
Children under 12 years old are not allowed to visit patient in ward

What NOT to bring in maternity ward?

A large amount of cash
Jewelleries
Personal laptop or electrical appliances
Sharp objects or any weapon
infant milk formula, bottle or pacifier

Criteria for discharging patients from maternity ward

Mother and baby have no complications after labor
Baby has been checked by doctor incharge
Baby has defecated and urinated
Mother is healthy and able to take care of baby confidently
Baby is healthy and able to breastfeed
Baby’s blood test for G6PD and TSH has been issued
Baby has been injected with immunisation injection such as BCG, HEP B, Vit K
OAE test has been done (Hearing Screening Test)

* Please bring discharge slip to the payment counter and present proof of payment at maternity ward before bringing both mother and baby/babies home

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

1. If I choose to give birth in PPUKM, does any booking process is required?

Yes and we require you to have at least 2 check-ups with our doctors here in PPUKM

2. Where should I go if I’m about to give birth?

You need to come to PAC/OAG located beside Emergency Department quickly

3. What do I have to bring if I feel like I am about to give birth?

You have to bring along your identification card, appointment card, antenatal check-up record book, guarantee letter (if any)/ deposit for ward admittance

4. Is my husband allowed to accompany me inside the labor room?

Yes, a waiting pass is needed to enter the labor room. In order to get the waiting pass, your husband/partner needs to sign a waiting pass form in labor hall and go to Security Counter at Level 1 nearby the labor hall to get the waiting pass

5. Is any female relative allowed to accompany me inside the labor room?

Priority will be given to patient’s husband or mother. However, in the absence of both, a request to have a female relative in labor room can be made by patient.

6. How can I breastfeed if I am still unable to produce breastmilk?

Naturally, every pregnant women are able to produce breastmilk. It is recommended to breastfeed your child in the first hour after giving birth to stimulate milk production. Delaying this practice will cause low production of breastmilk and baby will resist to breastfeed

7. To whom may I refer regarding breastfeeding problems?

You may call O&G Clinic to get help from our well trained breastfeed counsellors or you may get our informative Breastfeed Support Group pamphlet. Also, well trained counsellors are available in every ward for you to get some help.
