AKEPT Global Series: University Presidents Forum in collaboration with UKM
‘UNIVERSITIES LEADERSHIP IN CHALLENGING TIMES... AND THE WAY FORWARD’
10 February 2021 (Wednesday) | 10.00 am (GMT+8 Kuala Lumpur)
The threats that humanity encounters today are inevitable as a consequence of global interconnectedness and interdependence. In this current circumstance, the Covid-19 pandemic has triggered the most appalling recession in nearly a century and is evoking damage to people's well-being as a whole. Education is no exception. Today's university leaders are confronted with overwhelming challenges and uncharted waters as they resume to navigate the global pandemic aftermath.
This webinar aligns towards the strategic alternatives needed for the way forward in the post-pandemic period in an era where internationalization is faced with restrictions and challenges. It follows the aptitude of higher education institutions to analyze the recruitment strategies and execute a tactical gambit to draw in global student audiences as well as university partners through a keen focus on value-added recruitments. This debate will also highlight the urgency for the university leaders to address pressing issues on imposed cuts on education budgets, inundation of technological advancement, and how effective leadership strategies can keep the faculties and research institutions intact as well as motivating academic communities and universities employees.
Among pivotal questions that may arise during the discussion: What is the future of universities? How does an institution gain global prominence yet maintain a local relevance? What will the new strategic imperatives be within the new normal? How shall key performance indicators be redefined? The debate will tackle questions about the value offered by a university education which includes networking and social opportunities as well as educational content. During this critical moment, university leaders ought to demonstrate the institution's relevance by reviving learning environments so that digitalization expands and complements in such a manner that does not substitute the student-teacher and student-student interactions.
In dealing with unpredictable challenges, higher education institutions are in a dire need of strong transformational leaders to search for strategic pivots in positioning the institutions and bringing sustainability in universities up to the next level henceforth.
