Bachelor of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy with Honours

PROGRAM SUMMARY

Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy is an interdisciplinary field that covers major imaging techniques, disease diagnosis and radiotherapy cancer treatment. The Bachelor of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy with Honours is a four-year degree programme with two disciplines; diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy. Diagnostic imaging is the practice of acquiring medical images of patients using a range of imaging modalities to confirm or exclude a medical diagnosis, monitor patient progress, or provide medical screening information. Radiotherapy is the administration of radiation treatment using a variety of therapeutic modalities as part of major cancer treatment. It also incorporates treatment planning, simulation, dosimetry and patient care management. Both professions require a combination of technical and scientific expertise as well as the passion to work with patients.

Life at Faculty

This programme is designed with a foundation in basic medical sciences in the first year, followed by core professional courses from the second year onwards. Clinical practicum is introduced as early as semester 1, year 2 and onwards. Students observe and perform tasks under direct supervision of clinical staffs then progress to working independently with minimal supervision in later years. All placements are arranged in a variety of Medical Centres and there is an opportunity to spend an elective period in either diagnostic imaging or radiotherapy department of your choice. Students undertake an honors level research project in the final year of studies under supervision of academic experts in areas ranging from dosimetry, breast imaging, fMRI, radiotherapy techniques & management, predictive modelling to evidence-based practice and many other relevant topics. Our curriculum is developed and assessed by leading healthcare providers and partners  throughout Malaysia and is accredited by the Malaysian Qualification Agency and in compliance with the Act 774 Allied Health Professions Act 2016. The campus is located strategically in the heart of Kuala Lumpur which offers students an opportunity to experience life in the capital city of Malaysia. Various facilities including the library, cafeterias and student lounges are available for the students to study, to have discussion sessions with their peers or to have a break in between lectures.  Student accommodation is located near Taman Tasik Tititwangsa an urban recreational park spreading across an area of 95 hectares with 57 hectares of lake. Students will be able to relax or exercise at the park if they require a change of scenery. The program also has a tight-knit relationship with the alumni and industrial stakeholders to help mould the students to become a professional in their career pathway.
