PROGRAMME SUMMARY

Do you want to explore the mystery of biology using the latest software and technology? Bioinformatics combines biology, computer science and information technology by applying computational and information science solutions to biological problems. The programme allows students to gain knowledge on molecular biology and train them to develop algorithms and write computer programs to analyse and interpret big data in solving biological problems. These skills are essential for exploring knowledge in the field of biotechnology, drug development and enzymes design. The focus of data analysis is primarily limited to the scope of molecular biology data, specifically the analysis of sequence and macromolecular structures to gain insights and discoveries in the post genomics era. This is in addition to applied research and development in genetics, vaccinology, enzyme technology and drug discovery that are directed at improving the quality of human health and economic progress. Students will also learn about designing a research project and writing a research proposal through critical analysis of scientific literature. They will finally conduct their own individual research project to solve specific biological issues. The highlight of the programme is a one-year internship training at related industries or research institutes.
