1st of June 2017 mark the 10th year anniversary of Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark (LUGG). 1st of June 2007 was they day when UNESCO announced Langkawi as one of the UNESCO Global Geoparks.  The status is only awarded to areas with internationally important geological heritage that also have a sustainable tourism strategy that benefit the local and regional economy.

The chairman of Langkawi Research Centre and also LUGG Advisor, Prof. Emeritus Dato Dr. Ibrahim Komoo was given an honor to give a public lecture to the guests. The title of his lecture is Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark : Lambang Kualiti dan Keistimewaan Langkawi.

The event was later followed by a speech by Ustaz Mahmud bin Hassan on ‘ Hubungan Manusia dengan Alam Sekitar dari Perspektif Islam Selaras dengan Konsep Langkawi Global Geopark”.
