LIBRARY COLLECTIONS
General Collection
This collection consists of books on multi–discipline subjects and is located at Level 5 of the main library. All books in this collection can be borrowed based on the users’ category.
Arabic and Islamic Civilization Collection
It is located at Level 4 of the main library. This collection comprises Islamic studies, history and civilization, as well as Arabic language and literature. The books are in multi–languages; Arabic, English and Malay.
Southeast Asia Collection
The Southeast Asia Collection is located at Level 5 of the main library. It is a closed access collection on multi–discipline subjects. This collection consists of the subjects pertaining to/about Southeast Asia countries. The publication types in this collection are books, postgraduate theses and conference/seminar papers.
Document Collection
Document Collection is a closed access collection that can be used for reference only. It consists of Malaysian government publications (ministerial/department level), Malaysian State Government documents, statutory bodies and publications from ASEAN countries. This collection also places publications from selected foreign governments, United Nations and its agencies.
UKM Archive Collection
This collection gathers materials on the history and development of UKM, consisting of university records and official publications, works of UKM academic members published by faculties/departments, UKM Press publications and other publications of UKM staff and students. These publications are also accessible through UKM Institutional Repository (eRep). Archive Collection is a closed access collection and can be used for reference only during office hours at Level 6 of the main library.
Special Collection
This collection gathers rare books, manuscripts, out-of-print materials, classical publications and personal collections. It consists of collections from scholars such as Prof. J. Schact, Harun Aminurrashid, Indonesia-Chinese Peranakan Literature. This is a closed access collection and can be used for reference only during office hours at Level 6 of the main library.
Tun Ahmad Sarji Collection
This collection consists of material donated by The Most Honorable Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid, Pro-Chancellor of UKM. His collection consists of various subjects such as civil service, corporate administration, art and heritage, religion, humanities and sport. This collection can be used for reference only and placed at Anjung Pro-Canselor Tun Ahmad Sarji, level 4, main library.
Reference Collection
This collection is located at Level 4 of the main library and comprises reference materials in various subjects from general works, history, science and technology, human science, medicine as well as library science. It gathers reference materials such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, year books, atlas, almanacs, abstracts, indexes, bibliographies etc. This collection is non-circulated and can be used for reference only.
Red Spot Collection
This collection placed the titles that are mainly recommended by lectureres and they serve as compulsory reading materials. Items in this collection can be borrowed based on users’ category. This collection is located at level 5, Level 5 of the main library.
Prohibited Collection
This collection consists of materials that are prohibited from distribution by the Malaysian government. However, users can get access to this collection with recommendation letter from their Head of Department. This collection is located at Customer Service Unit, Level 4 of the main library. Reference can be made during office hours only.
Light Reading Collection
This collection is located at Level 5 of the main library and consists of light reading materials and popular in nature. Items in this collection can be circulated based on users’ category.
Journal Collection
This collection gathers current and back issues of journal in various fields of study. There are more than 140,000 copies of journal or almost 5,000 titles of journal in this collection. Journal collection consists of several small collections such as local journals and magazines, back issues journal, reserved journals, compactus journals and newspapers.
Media Collection
This collection consists of microform and audio–visual materials in multi–discipline subjects, such as DVD, VCD, CD-rom, cassettes, slides, kits etc. Publication types in this collection are back issues newspapers and final year reports. This collection is a closed access collection and available at Multimedia Unit, level 2,Level 2 of the main library.
Reserve Collection
This collection placed books that have not been borrowed for at least 10 years or more and located at specific rooms. Library clients who want to refer or borrow these books can request for them at the Customer Service Counter, Level 4 of the main library. Books from this collection can be borrowed similar as books from the General Collection.
New Books Collection
Located on Level 4, Tun Seri Lanang Library. This collection houses new books published within 3 years covering multi-discipline subjects. All books in this collection can be borrowed based on the users’ category.
UKM Founder's Collection
The UKM Founder’s Collection houses materials donated by figures involved in the establishment of UKM. They are Prof. Emeritus Datuk Abu Bakar Abdul Hamid, Datuk Zainal Abidin Abdul Wahid and Dr. Syed Husin Ali. There are various areas of high value materials that can be used for reference such as public service, corporate, heritage and arts, religious, community and sports. Among the types of material are books, seminar papers, magazines, letters, photo collections, reports and meeting minutes. This collection is placed on a special shelf inside Bestari Quiet Zone, Level 5.
