SYNOPSIS INTERMEDIATE MATLAB FOR
ENGINEERING COMPUTATION

Graduate and postgraduate studies especially in engineering field requireproficiency in numerical computation. Matlab is one of the numerical tools available that fits the bill. This course is intended to provide sufficient working knowledge of numerical and programming tasks for engineering computation. It requires that the participant has a basic working knowledge of Matlab. It is a 1-day course that start with a review of Matlab software. Then the basic essentials of scripting is elaborated before the main programming paradigm of control statements, looping, iteration and function are emphasized. Numerical strategy will take the second half of the course with emphasis on roots finding, matrix solution, interpolation, regression and ODE solution of single and multiple equations using available tools. Finally post processing techniques of graphical representations of data will be explored. Examples of engineering problems will be used throughout the course.

Speaker

Associate Prof. Dr. Meor Zainal Meor Talib has more than 10 years of experience in teaching programming techniques and numerical computations. His post graduate studies cover a lot of numerical modellings and computations. Programming languages such as C, C++, visual basic, Delphi, Scilab, Matlab, J, Phyton are some of his programming language arsenals that he uses for his numerical computations. Matlab however remains the main bulwark of his computation tool. Dr. Meor also writes his own numerical solver modules to customize certain numerical solution.
