BIODATA
Professor Datuk Dr. Noor Azlan is the tenth Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), who took up his post on the 1st of January 2014. Prior to his appointment as Vice-Chancellor, he was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs). Prof Datuk Dr Noor Azlan also heads the Economics and Finance Cluster of the National Council of Professors in Malaysia and serves as a member of the National Development & Planning Council (NDPC) and Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of Bank Negara Malaysia, the Central Bank of Malaysia. Noor Azlan is also a Commonwealth Fellow of Financial Economics & Banking of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) as well as Mason Fellow of the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, USA.
Professor Datuk Dr. Noor Azlan began his career at UKM over 26 years ago as a lecturer in the Faculty of Business. He has served as Dean of the UKM-Graduate School of Business, Dean at the Faculty of Economics and Business and the Chair of the Graduate School of Business. Between April 2006 and September 2009, Professor Noor Azlan was seconded to the Prime Minister’s Department, where he served as the Head of the Special Consultancy Team on Globalization, National Economic Action Council (NEAC), the Director of Microeconomics and Investments, National Implementation Directorate (NID) and the Director of the Malaysian Development Institute (MDI), Economic Planning Unit.
Professor Noor Azlan has actively participated in national level strategic initiatives, and has assumed leadership roles in several of them. These include, among others, the Blue Ocean Strategy Study on Macro Strategic Directions, the New Sources of Growth Initiative of the Economic Council, formulation of strategic directions as well as the development of an outcome-based framework for the 10th Malaysia Plan.
Professor Noor Azlan holds a Master degree in Public Administration from Harvard University in addition to an MBA in Finance and PhD in Economics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA. Professor Noor Azlan was born in Port Weld, Perak and is married with three children.
