SEADPRI Forum: 3rd Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation

Session 6.3 – Linking Research and Policy: Advancing Local Adaptation for Disaster Prevention

Adaptation assessment and decision-making are institutionally and spatially contextualised. Greater effort in knowledge generation is required to strengthen overall adaptive capacity particularly at the local level. Sufficient information to delineate practical adaptation options for local action is critical to advancing disaster prevention for vulnerable communities. This can be done through action-oriented policy-relevant initiatives to generate knowledge and better respond to climate change and disaster risks. Such initiatives would provide insights on how to improve institutional and policy coordination to mainstreaming adaptation in development planning at the national level. This session gathers the outcomes of several local level initiatives with a view to provide insights to identify issues pertaining to adaptation for facilitating policy making for disaster prevention.

Objectives:

  • To contribute to the understanding of challenges in climate change adaptation for disaster prevention at the local level.
  • To identify approach for sustained inputs of knowledge from the local level for policy making and development planning processes on a continuous basis.
