Program Offered
Fuel cell institute offers two (2) research mode programs and one (1) coursework program as follows:
1. Master of Science (Research Mode)
The Master of Science program is intended to equip students with extended knowledge in fuel cell engineering, hydrogen energy, and/or energy management and policy. This program is designed to produce graduates with an understanding of the concept and theoretical basis of fuel cell engineering, fuel cell application, fuel cell characterization/performance analysis, hydrogen energy, and/or energy management and policy. The graduates are capable of conducting good research for further progress.
Duration of Studies:
- For FULL-TIME candidates, the maximum study duration is four (4) to six (6) semesters.
- For PART-TIME candidates, the maximum study duration is six (6) to eight (8) semesters.
Program Learning Outcome:
- Ability to generate new knowledge through research in the fields of fuel cell engineering, hydrogen energy, and/or energy management and policy.
- Ability to apply critical thinking and scientific skills to solve problems in the areas of fuel cell engineering, hydrogen energy, and/or energy management and policy.
- Ability to adopt practical skills in competitive research in the fields of fuel cell engineering, hydrogen energy, and/or energy management and policy.
- Ability to link ideas and issues related to society and the environment in the fields of fuel cell engineering, hydrogen energy, and/or energy management and policy as well as present information/ideas/reports professionally and confidently.
- Ability to adapt information technology or digital technology in analyzing numerical and graphical data to support learning and research.
- Ability to lead and manage projects effectively and be responsible for conducting significant research.
- Ability to master personal skills and career development as well as entrepreneurial characteristics through learning and self-development.
- Ability to conduct research responsibly and adhere to a valid code of practice with integrity, ethics, and professionalism.

2. Doctor of Philosophy (Research Mode)
The Doctoral program is intended to cultivate graduates with a systematic and profound understanding of fuel cell engineering, hydrogen energy, and/or energy management and policy. This program will produce graduates who are highly skilled and capable of generating and imparting knowledge in the fields of fuel cell engineering, hydrogen energy, and/or energy management and policy. The award of a doctorate degree will be taken into account the extensive knowledge and ability of students to conduct research independently in the related field with high-quality research.
Duration of Studies:
- For FULL-TIME candidates, the maximum study duration is six (6) to twelve (12) semesters.
- For PART-TIME candidates, the maximum study duration is eight (8) to fourteen (14) semesters.
Program Learning Outcome:
- Ability to generate new knowledge through research in the fields of fuel cell engineering, hydrogen energy, and/or energy management and policy.
- Ability to use critical thinking and develop scientific skills to formulate and solve problems in the areas of fuel cell engineering, hydrogen energy, and/or energy management, and policy.
- Ability to plan and adapt practical skills in competitive research in the fields of fuel cell engineering, hydrogen energy, and/or energy management and policy.
- Ability to provide expert advice on social and environmental issues in the fields of fuel cell engineering, hydrogen energy, and/or energy management and policy as well as present information/ideas/reports professionally and confidently.
- Ability to adapt information technology or digital technology in data processing and critical evaluation of numerical and graphical data to support learning and research.
- Ability to lead and manage projects effectively and responsibly in conducting significant research in collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Ability to master personal skills and career development as well as entrepreneurial characteristics through learning and self-development.
- Ability to conduct research responsibly with minimal supervision and adhere to a valid code of practice with integrity, ethics, and professionalism.

3. Master of Science in Low Carbon and Hydrogen Technology (Coursework)
This program will be offered starting from 2022. This program is designed to produce graduates with advanced knowledge in the fields of low carbon technology and hydrogen technology in Malaysia, which is crucial to achieving global energy and environmental sustainability in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era. This program covers the core components related to low carbon and hydrogen technology, including the fundamental understanding of various low carbon technologies and emerging hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, global energy policy, and management. This program is also designed to enable the candidates to choose the elective courses based on their background interests ranging from fundamental in the related applications such as advanced energy material, electrochemistry for energy, and energy system modeling, to the technology-related aspects such as energy storage and transport, process safety for hydrogen technology and circular economy. A wide range of career prospects that fits the future global economy trend can be undertaken by the graduates from this program, including (a) renewable energy field, (b) research and development, (c) construction and consultancy for new energy technology, (d) policymaking related to renewable energy, and (e) business venturing on frontier technologies.

- This program is designed for FULL-TIME candidates to complete in three (3) full semesters.
- For PART-TIME candidates, the maximum study duration is eight (8) semesters.
Program Learning Outcome:
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of advanced theories and methods of engineering and science to solve complex problems in the field of low carbon technology, hydrogen energy as well as energy management and policy.
- Ability to analyze, evaluate and solve complex problems using scientific skill and critical thinking in the field of low carbon technology, hydrogen energy as well as energy management and policy.
- Ability to apply practical skills and empower competitiveness in the field of low carbon technology, hydrogen energy as well as energy management and policy.
- Ability to connect ideas and issues related to society and the environment as well as communicate information or ideas professionally.
- Ability to use information technology or digital technology and numerical skills competently to support assignments, projects, and learning.
- Ability to lead and work collaboratively as part of a team that carries out a variety of different roles and is responsible while carrying out various activities towards colleagues and stakeholders.
- Ability to master personal skills and demonstrate entrepreneurship characteristics through self-learning and self-development.
- Able to perform assignments, projects, and various activities responsibly, adhere to the valid code of conduct, high integrity, ethics, and professionalism.
