FELLOWSHIP IN UROGYNAECOLOGY (UKM)

Training format:

  • Duration of training:             6 months – 1 year
  • Format of attendance:         Part time – Attendance at least 3 days/ week (Honorary position)

Full time – Attendance 5 days/ week with passive calls (Honorary position)

Training Centre:

Urogynaecology Unit, UKM Medical Centre/ Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, Cheras 56000 Kuala Lumpur

Eligibility & Qualification:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Obstetrics & Gynaecology i.e. Doctor of O&G (DrO&G)/ Master in O&G/ Master / MRCOG Part III or equivalent
  • Possess at least 1 year working experience post gazzettement as an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist
  • Independent, Certified and gazetted with interest in Urogynaecology

Objectives of Programme:

  1. To acquire knowledge and skill in managing common pelvic floor dysfunctions.
  2. To acquire knowledge and skills to perform safe urogynaecology surgery.
  3. To acquire knowledge and skill for common diagnostic urogynaecology procedures i.e. urodynamic studies, Pelvic floor ultrasound, cystoscopy and uroflowmetry.
  4. To acquire knowledge and skills to identify and manage post-operative complications and maternal birth trauma.
  5. To learn how to set-up and maintain a perineal clinic.
  6. To learn to develop good urogynaecology team.

Fridays 0900 – 1230H  Urodynamic study & Perineal clinic

Duties of a Urogynaecology fellow:

  1. Candidate will be required to perform all clinical activities at the level of a specialist i.e. run clinics, do ward rounds, do passive on-call duties (for full-time candidates).
  2. Candidate must observe and assist all urogynaecology cases performed either as elective or emergency.
  3. Candidate is expected to assist as many urogynaecology procedures as possible either as an elective / emergency procedure and able to perform a few common urogynaecology procedures independently before final assessment.
  4. Assessment will be in the form of continuous assessment.
  5. Candidate must keep a log book and an audit of his/her performance.
  6. Candidate must be contactable at all times and regularly meet with course director.
  7. Candidate is required to join all clinical and academic activities of the Unit.
  8. Candidate is expected to join research activities in the unit.
  9. Candidate is expected to publish at least 1 manuscript in a WOS journal (for 1 year training) or be involved in the production of a manuscript (for 6 months training)

Certificate of completion of training certified by Course Director and Dean, Faculty of Medicine UKM will be given to all successful candidates.

Important requirements:

    1. A comprehensive CV (demonstrating candidates’ O&G skills in Gynaecology)
    1. Full registration with Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) for Malaysians.
    1. Foreign candidates will require Temporary Practising Certificate (TPC) by Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). Please ensure you fulfil all the requirements for TPC. https://mmc.gov.my/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/TPC_July_2019_2.pdf . Application for TPC will be forwarded to MMC by UKM except for Letter of Good Standing
    1. Proof of postgraduate degree in O&G
    1. A valid Annual practising Certificate (APC) with HCTM added as one of the practise location (Malaysian)
    1. National Specialist Registry (NSR) Certificate for Malaysians
    1. Certificate of Credentialing as an O&G Specialist if available.
Step 1
Application through Secretariat of Postgraduate Studies (SPS) website/ link at HCTM website/ or direct communication with the Course Director *Application need to be made a minimum of 6 months before the date of admission

  • Fill in and submit Application Form to International Affairs Unit (UPA)
  • Letter of Temporary Approval/ Letter of Rejection to applicants will be issued by SPS
  • For the accepted candidates, a copy of the Temporary Approval Letter will be sent to UKM Shape – for VISA’s application process

Accepted candidates are required to complete the following documents:

  • *Since Covid-19 pandemic, Malaysian Immigration will only issued Professional Visit Pass (PVP) with Single Entry Visa for 1 Year. Candidate must go out from Malaysia before PVP expired and must re-apply new PVP from home country for next year's programme
    *All documents will be sent through the International Affairs Unit, Faculty of Medicine UKM

Candidate enrolled and report to the Course Director

An offer letter will be issued (by UKM Shape) to the candidate for the payment process

Course Director will notify the candidate about privileging and credentialing to HCTM Credentialing Link

ONE (1) month before programme ends, the Course Director are required to inform SPS and International Affairs Unit, Faculty of Medicine UKM
Finish
SPS will issue Certificate of Completion to the candidate

DEFINITION

Credentialing: a process to set the standards and to do an evaluation for a person’s qualification in a field or procedure. It is recognition for the professional training done by a medical practitioner.

Privileges: the rights given by the hospital for a medical practitioner to give treatments or to do procedures on hospital patients based on the qualifications of the training, and the medical practitioner’s experience and expertise.

*The meeting will be conducted 4 times a year
