Duration of Training: 1-year for international candidate & up to 3 years for local candidate

Emoluments: Fees should be paid to UKM and settled with no outstanding amounts due

Availability Places: 1-per year
Eligibility:

  1. Must possess a recognizable Medical Degree and Post-Graduate Medical Degree
    qualification in Ophthalmology that is registrable with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).
  2. Letter of offer and/ or financial warranty from the employee.
  3. Must submit a list of workshops, courses and short training programme attended.
  4. Must submit the names of at least two referees, at least one of whom has directly supervised
    the candidates and is able to submit a report on the candidates’ clinical skills, practice,
    attitude and competence.
  5. Must have been in active clinical practice for at least 1-year post specialist qualification.

Objectives of Programme:

  1. To be a competent subspecialist capable of assuming as consultant’s role.
  2. To acquire working knowledge of the theoretical basis of the specialty including its
    foundations in the basic medical sciences.
  3. To perform research study in this discipline and submit a manuscript for publication at the
    end of programme.
  4. To be able to address issues of gender, sexual orientation, age, culture, ethnicity and
    ethics in a professional manner.

Selection Process: Fulfill requirements by the university (UKM) and Malaysian Medical Council
(MMC) & an interview by consultants either face to face or via tele-interview (international
candidate only).

Minimum Training Requirement:

  1. Local candidate must be training for 3 years in established National Centre which will
    include 1-2 years in this Unit, UKMMC and at least 1-year placement in a recognized centre in
    Malaysia or overseas other than UKMMC in this Unit of the respective centre/ hospital.
  2. International candidate they will be trained exclusively in this Unit, UKMMC for 1-year.
  3. Successfully conduct and complete a research study in Unit by the completion of training.
  4. Obtain a Pass in the UKM Fellowship Exit Examination.

Method of Assessment/ Certificate:

  1. Completion of the training logbook and signed by the consultant of the various clinics, Head
    of Unit and the Head of Department of Ophthalmology in UKMMC.
  2. Evidence of submission of the research study manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal.

Post Training: Interested candidates may have the chance to pursue 1-year Master’s degree in
Medicine or a Doctorate degree related to OOLs.

Certificate of completion of training certified by Course Director and Dean, Faculty of Medicine
UKM will ll successful candidates.

  • Fill in and submit Application Form to International Affairs Unit (UPA)
  • Letter of Temporary Approval/ Letter of Rejection to applicants will be issued by SPS
  • For the accepted candidates, a copy of the Temporary Approval Letter will be sent to UKM Shape – for VISA’s application process

Accepted candidates are required to complete the following documents:

  • *Since Covid-19 pandemic, Malaysian Immigration will only issued Professional Visit Pass (PVP) with Single Entry Visa for 1 Year. Candidate must go out from Malaysia before PVP expired and must re-apply new PVP from home country for next year's programme
    *All documents will be sent through the International Affairs Unit, Faculty of Medicine UKM

Candidate enrolled and report to the Course Director

An offer letter will be issued (by UKM Shape) to the candidate for the payment process

Course Director will notify the candidate about privileging and credentialing to HCTM Credentialing Link

ONE (1) month before programme ends, the Course Director are required to inform SPS and International Affairs Unit, Faculty of Medicine UKM
Finish
SPS will issue Certificate of Completion to the candidate

DEFINITION

Credentialing: a process to set the standards and to do an evaluation for a person’s qualification in a field or procedure. It is recognition for the professional training done by a medical practitioner.

Privileges: the rights given by the hospital for a medical practitioner to give treatments or to do procedures on hospital patients based on the qualifications of the training, and the medical practitioner’s experience and expertise.

Select Head of Department (HOD) to verify your application.

Tick (√) and submit your application.

Your Dashboard for the application status will appear. You can check the ongoing status by time to time.

All applications will be reviewed in a meeting.

*The meeting will be conducted 4 times a year

HCTM issue an Approval Letter (TWO weeks after the meeting)
