Optional clinical attachment up to 12 months in an accredited/recognized center overseas. (under candidate’s own expenses)
Eligibility: Recognized postgraduate training in Internal Medicine with interest in Cardioogy. (MRCP/ Masters equivalent)
Objectives of Programme:
1. To produce general cardiologists with detailed knowledge in Cardiology.
2. To produce general cardiologists with basic competence and experience in performing procedures pertaining to Cardiology.
Activities/Task:
- Candidate will be required to perform all clinical activities at the level of a specialist i.e. run clinics, do ward rounds, perform simple procedures.
- Candidate should be able and competent to diagnose and manage common cardiology diseases.
- Emergency cardiology, cardiac care and outpatient services.
- Interpretation of ECGs- expected to report 500 cases minimum
- Supervision and interpretation of the stress tests
- Interpretation of the holter monitoring- report minimum 100 cases
- Basic training in echocardiography- basic knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, haemodynamics and their abnormalities. Must have a basic knowledge of the physical principles underlying ultrasonic image formation and Doppler techniques. Minimum 300 cases need to be performed and reported.
- Basic training in left and right heart catherization
- Basic training in cardiac pacing- must be proficient in inserting temporary pacing wires and at least performed 10 procedures.
- Continuing medical education- seminar, tutorial, clinical meetings
- Cardiac imaging : CT coronary angiogram, cardiac MRI or basic nuclear studies
- Candidate must pass the written and viva examinations which will be held prior to finishing the programme each year.
- Candidates must assist as many procedures as possible and able to perform a few common procedures independently before the final examination.
- Candidate must keep a log book and an audit of his/her performance.
- Candidate must be contactable and regularly meet with course director.
- Candidate is required to join all clinical and academic activities of the Unit.
- Candidate is encouraged to do research during the training and or present at a local /international conference.
Certificate of completion of training certified by Course Director and Dean, Faculty of Medicine UKM will be given to all successful candidates.

- Application for TPC will be forwarded to MMC by UKM except for Letter of Good Standing.
