FELLOWSHIP IN MATERNAL FETAL MEDICINE (UKM)

Programme Name: FELLOWSHIP IN MATERNAL FETAL MEDICINE (UKM)

Course Director :  Associate Professor Dr Rahana Abd Rahman

Duration of training: 6 months only

Training Centre: Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, UKM Medical Centre, 56000 Cheras, Kuala Lumpur

  1. Eligibility: The candidate:
  2.  must possess a basic medical degree recognized by the Malaysian Medical Council and have a current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC). For overseas trainees, registration MUST be settled before joining the training program.
  3. has completed a recognized specialist training(for oversea candidates) and in the context of Malaysia, a training recognized by the conjoint speciality board and the Ministry of Health
  4. is certified to do level 1 and 2 Obstetrics ultrasound. Candidate MUST provide documentary proof of this training.(An additional two months of training may be needed if the candidate have no basic knowledge of Obstetric Ultrasound).
  5. is to submit a current resume with two referees.
  6. is sponsored during the period of training.
  7. is to submit a good-standing letter from current or previous employer/institution.

Objectives of Programme:

  1. To train candidates to achieve acceptable level of performance in basic and advanced O&G ultrasound
  2. To train the candidates to manage cases commonly seen in maternal fetal medicine field
  3. To expose and train the candidates to numerous interventions and treatments for high risk pregnancies

Activities/Tasks:

  • At the end of the training, the candidate should be able to:
  • adequately perform Level 1 and 2 scan
  • adequately perform basic fetal echocardiography
  • perform numerous basic fetal monitoring procedures such as Doppler study of numerous vessels relevant to fetus wellbeing assessment.
  • Assist or perform invasive procedures amniocentesis, amnioreduction, insertion of shunts (after a period of observation)
  • attend audits such as perinatal review, CS surveys, near miss audits
  • attend teaching sessions including CTG reviews for medical officers and paramedical staffs.
  • do one audit/ research in six months posting or  two if the training is for one year. The projects must be discussed and presented to the team members for vetting and to avoid overlapping of research.
  • manage:
    • fetal anomalies in terms of counseling, bereavement and follow up of the mother and baby.
    • high risk pregnancy clinic with physician in the management of diabetic mothers and other medical disorders as hypertension, heart disease, SLE and other common medical disorders.
    • High-risk pregnancies such as multiple pregnancies, preterm labour, growth restricted fetuses
    • Pre-pregnancy assessment and counseling

Certificate of completion in training certified by Course Director and Dean, Faculty of Medicine UKM will be given to all successful candidates.

Important requirements:

  1. Application must be made at least six months before the intended start date
  2. You will need Temporary Practising Certificate (TPC) by Malaysian Medical Council prior to starting the course. Please ensure you fulfil all the requirements for TPC. The website is http://mmc.gov.my/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/TPC July 2019 2.pdf
  3. Application for TPC will be forwarded to MMC by UKM except for letter of Good Standing.

Application through Secretariat of Postgraduate Studies (SPS) website/ link at HCTM website/ or direct communication with the Course Director *Application need to be made a minimum of 6 months before the date of admission

Application will be reviewed by the Course Director

  • Fill in and submit Application Form to International Affairs Unit (UPA)
  • Letter of Temporary Approval/ Letter of Rejection to applicants will be issued by SPS
  • For the accepted candidates, a copy of the Temporary Approval Letter will be sent to UKM Shape – for VISA’s application process

Accepted candidates are required to complete the following documents:

  • *Since Covid-19 pandemic, Malaysian Immigration will only issued Professional Visit Pass (PVP) with Single Entry Visa for 1 Year. Candidate must go out from Malaysia before PVP expired and must re-apply new PVP from home country for next year's programme
    *All documents will be sent through the International Affairs Unit, Faculty of Medicine UKM
Step 5
Candidate enrolled and report to the Course Director
Step 6
An offer letter will be issued (by UKM Shape) to the candidate for the payment process
Step 7
Course Director will notify the candidate about privileging and credentialing to HCTM Credentialing Link
Step 8
ONE (1) month before programme ends, the Course Director are required to inform SPS and International Affairs Unit, Faculty of Medicine UKM
Finish
SPS will issue Certificate of Completion to the candidate

DEFINITION

Credentialing: a process to set the standards and to do an evaluation for a person’s qualification in a field or procedure. It is recognition for the professional training done by a medical practitioner.

Privileges: the rights given by the hospital for a medical practitioner to give treatments or to do procedures on hospital patients based on the qualifications of the training, and the medical practitioner’s experience and expertise.

For new application, please fill in the details and update your profile.

* If you want to renew you application, please apply 6 months BEFORE your expiry date.

Click Credentialing Form and complete all the required information.

*You need to fill in your Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) Registration Number, Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) Number and National Specialist Register (NSR) Number in the prerequisite field.
Step 4
Select Head of Department (HOD) to verify your application.
Step 5
Tick (√) and submit your application.
Step 6
Your Dashboard for the application status will appear. You can check the ongoing status by time to time.
Step 7
All applications will be reviewed in a meeting.

*The meeting will be conducted 4 times a year
Step 8
HCTM issue an Approval Letter (TWO weeks after the meeting)
Finish
HCTM issue Certificate of Credentialing (ONE month after)
