Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norshamsiah Md Din

Prof. Dr. Norshamsiah Md Din is a Consultant Ophthalmologist in Hospital Tunku Mukhriz Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HCTM UKM), specializing in Glaucoma.

She received Ophthalmology training from the National University of Malaysia in 2007 and pursued a doctorate degree from University College London and successfully graduated with a PhD in 2014. She was also a clinical and research fellow in Moorfield Eye Hospital under the pupillage of Prof Sue Lightman and Dr Keith Barton in uveitis and glaucoma from 2010-2013. She has more than 50 journal article publications under her name and is actively conducting research in glaucoma and uveitis. Her research interest is in the management of secondary glaucoma, glaucoma imaging and minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS). She received referrals from across the country especially for secondary glaucomas particularly neovascular glaucoma and uveitic glaucoma. Associate Professor Dr Norshamsiah Md Din is the current head of the Ophthalmology Department, National University of Malaysia and the chairperson of the Malaysian Universities Conjoined Committee of Ophthalmology.

DEFINITION

Credentialing: a process to set the standards and to do an evaluation for a person’s qualification in a field or procedure. It is recognition for the professional training done by a medical practitioner.

Privileges: the rights given by the hospital for a medical practitioner to give treatments or to do procedures on hospital patients based on the qualifications of the training, and the medical practitioner’s experience and expertise.
