Dr Khairul Najmi Muhammad Nawawi is a Consultant Physician, Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist in Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He obtained his medical degree from The National University of Ireland, Galway in 2009 and subsequently completed his Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians Examination, MRCP(UK) in 2014. He was trained as a gastroenterology registrar for 5 years while working in teaching hospitals in Ireland. He also pursued the Master of Science in Clinical Research Methodology at The National University of Ireland, Galway and was awarded with the Master Degree in 2017. He returned to Malaysia in mid-2017, joined the Faculty of Medicine, UKM and enrolled in the National Gastroenterology & Hepatology Fellowship Training. Currently, he is actively involved in the clinical care of gastroenterology/hepatology patients, teaching of undergraduate & postgraduate students, and conducting clinical researches. He is the Head of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Unit, and Deputy Head of Endoscopy Service Centre, HCTM. His area of interest includes diagnostic & therapeutic endoscopies (including enteroscopy, video capsule endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound), luminal diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease, GERD and peptic ulcer disease, hepatology especially viral hepatitis and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), and early gastrointestinal malignancies such as gastric and colorectal cancers. He has published many case reports, review papers, original articles, and book chapters in the local and international indexed journals.
