Introduction

It’s a part-time program designed for Blended Learning only. Classes are scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays, running from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. 

To apply for the master’s program, candidates should meet the following requirements:

    • A Bachelor’s Degree in Islamic Studies with a good Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) from UKM or any higher education institution recognized by the Senate; or 
    • Other qualifications equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Islamic Studies, along with additional qualifications or experience recognized by the Senate; or
    • Candidates without qualifications or work experience in Islamic Studies, but interested in conducting interdisciplinary research related to Islamic Studies, must complete appropriate prerequisite courses and achieve the minimum CGPA set by the program; and 
    • Fulfill any additional requirements specified by the program (if applicable); and 
    • Meet the standards set by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA); and 
    • Language requirements.  

For Local Graduates (using CGPA):  

    • Minimum CGPA of 2.75; OR
    • CGPA between 2.50 and 2.74, and pass the internal assessment by the Faculty Committee.  

For International Graduates (using CGPA):  

    • Minimum CGPA of 2.75; OR
    • CGPA between 2.50 and 2.74, and pass the internal assessment by the Faculty Committee.  

For International Graduates (not using CGPA): 

– Minimum Maqbul (45%-54%)  

For Malaysian & Southeast Asian Students:  

    • 60%; OR 
    • 55% with 3 years of relevant work experience; OR 
    • 55% and *thorough internal assessment.  

For Middle Eastern Students:  

– Minimum of 60%.  

For Graduates from Morocco/Iran (Malaysian students):  

    • Equivalent to (10/20) which is a minimum CGPA of 2.75.  

For Graduates from Shubra (not using CGPA):  

    • Jayyid (55-69%); OR
    • 54% with 3 years of relevant work experience. 

International candidates are required to take a Malay Language course (3 credits) as specified by the university. Exemptions may be granted to candidates who have completed a Malay Language course conducted by institutions recognized by the university Senate.

All students are required to attend the Academic Arabic Module Camp (KEMBAA) in the Academic Arabic Course (PPPZ6033). Exemptions are granted to candidates for whom Arabic is the official language or is used as the medium of instruction.

International students must meet the English language proficiency requirements by achieving the minimum score or band as specified in the equivalency table: HEET (5 Low), TOEFL iBT (31-45), IELTS (4.0), or MUET Level 2.0 (Band 2.0). Examination results must be submitted during the application process.

International students who do not meet the English language proficiency requirements may proceed with their studies under the following conditions:

    • They are allowed to take the internal English Preparation Course at UKM during their studies and must comply with the rules set by the Malaysian Immigration Department. Students will receive a letter of offer to enroll in their study program.
    • Students taking the internal English Preparation Course must sit for the IELTS, TOEFL, MUET, HEET, or any other examination aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) to fulfill the English graduation requirement. The list of examinations aligned with CEFR is subject to approval by the Senate from time to time.

The faculty may grant exemptions to international candidates who:

    • Hold academic qualifications from any local universities recognized by the Senate; or
    • Come from countries where English is the official language, or have academic qualifications from institutions that use English as the medium of instruction.

Candidates may be exempted from the English language proficiency requirements; however, they must take the English Proficiency Test (EPT). If they do not achieve the required level set by the program, they will be required to attend and pass the English Skills Module (EPM).

Exemptions from the English language requirements are also available for students from the Nusantara region, specifically from Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, and Southern Thailand, who are enrolled in programs that use languages closely related to Malay.
