Introduction

This program will be offered starting from 2022. This program is designed to produce graduates with advanced knowledge in the fields of low carbon technology and hydrogen technology in Malaysia, which is crucial to achieving global energy and environmental sustainability in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era. This program covers the core components related to low carbon and hydrogen technology, including the fundamental understanding of various low carbon technologies and emerging hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, global energy policy, and management. This program is also designed to enable the candidates to choose the elective courses based on their background interests ranging from fundamental in the related applications such as advanced energy material, electrochemistry for energy, and energy system modeling, to the technology-related aspects such as energy storage and transport, process safety for hydrogen technology and circular economy. A wide range of career prospects that fits the future global economy trend can be undertaken by the graduates from this program, including (a) renewable energy field, (b) research and development, (c) construction and consultancy for new energy technology, (d) policymaking related to renewable energy, and (e) business venturing on frontier technologies.

-Entry Requirement
    • A bachelor’s degree in Law or Syariah or a bachelor’s degree in any field that has a legal or Syariah component from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia or other universities approved by the Senate with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50 out of 4.0 or its equivalent as accepted by the Senate; or
    • Candidates with a CGPA of below 2.50 out of 4.0 or equivalent qualifications can be accepted provided they have a minimum of 5 years of work experience in a related field and are subject to the Faculty Graduate Studies Committee’s assessment that the candidate is able to pursue the Master’s program.
    • International candidates must have a score of 600 for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) OR 100 for the Online TOEFL Test OR a score of 6.0 for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) OR Band 4 for Malaysian University English Test (MUET) OR any exam that has been aligned to The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) set by the respective program and approved by the Senate.

International candidates who do not meet the English language competency requirements may be given a Conditional Offer as follows:

    • candidates are allowed to attend the Higher Education English Test (HEET) Training at UKM, but students are still subject to the regulations of the Malaysian Immigration Department which are currently in force; AND
    • International candidates who follow the Intensive English Preparation Course (IEP) need to sit for the MUET exam or any exam that has been aligned to The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) to meet the English language competency requirements.

All international students are required to follow a Malay language course as an Audit (U) course in order to be eligible to be awarded a degree as determined by the University.
