Introduction

This program will be offered starting from 2022. This program is designed to produce graduates with advanced knowledge in the fields of low carbon technology and hydrogen technology in Malaysia, which is crucial to achieving global energy and environmental sustainability in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era. This program covers the core components related to low carbon and hydrogen technology, including the fundamental understanding of various low carbon technologies and emerging hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, global energy policy, and management. This program is also designed to enable the candidates to choose the elective courses based on their background interests ranging from fundamental in the related applications such as advanced energy material, electrochemistry for energy, and energy system modeling, to the technology-related aspects such as energy storage and transport, process safety for hydrogen technology and circular economy. A wide range of career prospects that fits the future global economy trend can be undertaken by the graduates from this program, including (a) renewable energy field, (b) research and development, (c) construction and consultancy for new energy technology, (d) policymaking related to renewable energy, and (e) business venturing on frontier technologies.

1.Ability to demonstrate knowledge of advanced theories and methods of engineering and science to solve complex problems in the field of low carbon technology, hydrogen energy as well as energy management and policy.
2.Ability to analyze, evaluate and solve complex problems using scientific skill and critical thinking in the field of low carbon technology, hydrogen energy as well as energy management and policy.
3.Ability to apply practical skills and empower competitiveness in the field of low carbon technology, hydrogen energy as well as energy management and policy.
4.Ability to connect ideas and issues related to society and the environment as well as communicate information or ideas professionally.
5.Ability to use information technology or digital technology and numerical skills competently to support assignments, projects, and learning.
6.Ability to lead and work collaboratively as part of a team that carries out a variety of different roles and is responsible while carrying out various activities towards colleagues and stakeholders.

The delivery of this program is as follows:

This program requires the candidates to fulfill a total of 42 credits. The candidates must complete 5 core courses, 5 elective courses, and 1 research project (mini-dissertation) for graduation.

    • A Bachelor of Engineering degree/ Bachelor of Science/ Bachelor of Technology with honors (CGPA 2.5 and above) from any institution of higher learning recognized by the Senate; OR
    • A Bachelor of Engineering degree/ Bachelor of Science/ Bachelor of Technology with honors having CGPA 2.00 – 2.49 accompanying with at least 5 years of working experience in the science and technology field after obtaining the degree; OR
    • Fulfilling the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL A) with MQF Level 7 for Malaysian candidates only.
  1. International candidates MUST meet the English language requirements as follows:
    • Obtain a minimum TOEFL pBT score of 453; OR
    • Obtain a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 46; OR
    • Obtain a minimum TOEFL ITP score of 585; OR
    • Obtain a minimum IELTS score of 5.5; OR
    • Obtain a minimum MUET score of band 3.5;
    • Obtain a minimum Pearson Test of English score of 51; OR
    • Obtain a minimum Cambridge English Qualifications and Test score of 160.
  1. International candidates who DO NOT MEET the English language competency requirements may be given the following CONDITIONAL OFFERS:
    • Students are allowed to attend the internal English Preparatory Course (Higher Education English Test (HEET) Training) at UKM with a maximum period of two (2) years, but students are still subject to the regulations of the Immigration Department of Malaysia which is in force.
  1. International candidates originating from a country that uses English as the OFFICIAL LANGUAGE or who have academic qualifications obtained from any institution of higher learning that uses English as the MEDIUM of instruction may be fully exempted from the English language requirement.
