OPEN ROOF VENTILATION GREEN HOUSE
Open Roof Ventilation Green House is an automated system with controlled temperature, humidity and injection of carbon dioxide located at the Green House Complex, Faculty of Science and Technology, UKM. The aim of the project is to observe the impact of climate change, in particular, the impact of elevated carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration on biological species and ecosystem function.
The Open Roof Ventilation Greenhouse injects CO2 automatically in a closed system elevated concentrations of 550-650 ppm daily at certain time intervals. At the time of no injection, the system is an open system where temperature and humidity are controlled at the required values. The target biological species shall be exposed to the CO2 high concentration for a certain period to look at the ecological and physiological responses of the target species, for example, changes of chlorophyll a/b ratio, changes in the leaf area index and in the growth rate of the plant species.
This laboratory is funded by Dana Pembangunan Instrumentasi Penyelidikan (2012), Geran Arus Perdana UKM, Long Term Research Grant Scheme (LRGS), UKM-YSD Chair in Climate Change and Institute of Climate Change (IPI).
The Open Roof Ventilation Green House is led by field expert of UKM-YSD Chair in Climate Change, Prof. Dr. Mohd. Nizam Mohd. Said (Director of the Institute of Climate Change).
