Dr Chiam Chun Wei, QIAGEN Application Specialist, Malaysia
Dr Chun Wei obtained his PhD at University of Malaya for his study on “Neurovirulence variation among the two genotypes of chikungunya virus in Malaysia”. He has 5 years of experience in laboratory, 6 publications, 4 poster presentations and 1 book chapter. He was awarded with 2 travel grants to attend 9th Asian Pacific Congress of Medical Virology at Adelaide, Australia in 2012 and 16th Biological Sciences Graduate Congress at National University of Singapore in 2011. He joined QIAGEN Biotechnology Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. since 2016 as the Application Specialist for life science and biological content research portfolios.
Dr. Nadiah Abu, Research Fellow/Senior Lecturer, UMBI
Dr. Nadiah is a research fellow from the functional genomics group in UMBI. She obtained her PhD from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2015 focusing on drug discovery. Her current research interests is regarding extracellular vesicles and its applications as biomarkers and immune regulators in cancers. She has received several grants for researching on exosomes among which is a study to profile non coding RNAs in exosomes derived from colorectal cancer cells. She has also published and presented her work in exosomes and extracellular vesicles.
Dr. Siti Aishah Sulaiman, Research Fellow/Senior Lecturer, UMBI
Dr Siti Aishah Sulaiman earned her PhD in Medicine from The University of Adelaide, Australia in 2015, with a thesis title of “Early Life Determinants of β-Cell Function in The Sheep”. In her PhD project, one of the aims was to determine the pancreatic islet microRNA expression profile and how they are correlated with the expression and methylation of the key genes in β-cells function. Following that, she joined the UKM Medical Molecular Biology Institute (UMBI) as a research fellow. Here in UMBI, she has been involved in various projects related to Diabetes and its complications, with a focus on the role of non-coding RNAs. She once used the Qiagen qPCR array to determine the oxidative stress role in Bipolar Disorder patients, as part of the collaborative research with the Psychiatry Department. Dr Siti Aishah has numerous experiences in performing the molecular experiment and the data analysis.
