Webinar PRIME
On the 23rd of September 2020, we hosted a webinar on Diabetes entitled “Precision Medicine in Malaysia: Ready for Prime Time.” The webinar was done in conjunction with the launch of our UK-Malaysia Joint Partnership for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) grant (“PRecision Medicine for Diabetic Individuals: A joint Malaysia-UK Effort (PRIME)). Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Abdul Wahab bin Mohammad, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research & Innovation of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), officiated the event.
The PRIME project is a collaborative effort between the UKM Medical Molecular Biology Institute (UMBI) and the University of Dundee (UK). Prof. Dr. Chim C Lang (University of Dundee) and Prof. Datuk Dr. A Rahman A Jamal (UMBI) lead the UK and Malaysia (UMBI) teams of researchers, respectively. The aim is to establish partnerships amongst physician-scientists, genetic epidemiologists, big-data analysts, machine learning scientists, and policymakers to cohesively deliver multi-level strategies to augment precision medicine for diabetic patients in Malaysia.
This PRIME webinar was open to the public. Approximately 220 people were in attendance, including the clinicians, researchers, and students. The event’s moderator was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Azian Abdul Murad, the Director of UMBI, UKM. All participants were presented with the talks by our experts on the current status and issues surrounding diabetes in Malaysia and the key research projects on diabetes.
