Professor Dr. Shamsul Azhar Shah is UMBI’s New Deputy Director
On the 31st of January 2016, UMBI bade farewell to the longest serving principal research fellow, Professor Dato’ Dr. Wan Zurinah Wan Ngah, who has also been the deputy director of UMBI (Academic and International Affairs). She has contributed a lot to the research in UMBI especially in the field of anti-oxidants and degenerative diseases.
The Vice Chancellor of UKM has agreed to appoint Professor Dr. Shamsul Azhar Shah as UMBI’s new deputy director. Professor Shamsul is a professor at the Department of Community Medicine and specialising in epidemiology of non-communicable diseases. He has been with UMBI on the dual appointment scheme for about a year and is involved in many of UMBI’s research projects including The Malaysian Cohort. We would like to warmly welcome Professor Shamsul to UMBI and we are confident that he would help in the further development of UMBI in terms of the academic programmes and international networking as well as research.
