Abstract
Bottom
sediment samples from 14 stations of the Larut Matang mangrove forest were
analysed for Cu, Mn and Zn. The elements were analysed with an Inductively
Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICPMS), Perkin Elmer 6200. The average concentrations of Cu, Mn and Zn
were 67.5 ± 0.23 ppm, 600 ± 24.5 ppm and 51.8 ± 0.34 ppm, respectively.
Generally, the concentrations of Mn and Zn were much influenced by natural
processes. The enrichment factors (EF)
for Mn and Zn were close to unity and can be considered as terigeneous in
origin, while the EF’s for Cu which has slightly higher than 1, indicating
enrichment from antropogenic sources.
Keywords: Copper,
manganese, enrichment factor, mangrove forest, zinc
