Welcome our Visiting Research Fellow Dr. Andrea Passeri (University of Bologna)
We are delighted to welcome Dr. Andrea Passeri as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre for Asian Studies (iKAS), IKMAS, National University of Malaysia (UKM), from February until August 2020. During his fellowship, Dr Passeri will undertake a research project on Myanmar’s hedging behaviour and diplomacy during the Thein Sein presidency. Dr. Passeri is Research Fellow and Adjunct Professor in International Relations of East Asia at the Department of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Bologna, where he teaches the course “Democracy and Authoritarianism in East Asia”. Dr. Passeri holds a Ph.D. in International Relations of East Asia from the University of Cagliari (Italy). His articles have appeared on leading international journals devoted to East Asian politics, including The Pacific Review, The Korean Journal of Defence Analysis, and The Journal of Northeast Asian History. His research interests include small powers’ alignment strategies, Myanmar politics, and the impact of nationalism on foreign policy choices. Dr. Passeri regularly collaborates with renowned think thanks and newspapers located both in Italy and abroad, such as the East-West Center, the Myanmar Times, and the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI).
