ABSTRACT
Women's age of marriage is one of the important proximate determinants of fertility. A lot of research has been done to explain the marriage pattern across age, cohort, and socioeconomic factors. One of the powerful models that is often used is the Coale-McNeil model. The purpose of this study is to determine the Java and Bali marriage patterns using the Coale-McNeil model. The data used were based on the 1991 Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey. The study finds that there is a large variation in the mean age of the first marriage across provinces.
