An initiative to equip children with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) knowledge to middle and low income families has led to the establishment of the first STEM Transit Centre, at Sungai Long, Kajang, recently. Innovatively designed by UKM’s senior lecturer Dr. Kalaivani Chellappan, the program aims to create interest and familiarize children with STEM knowledge at a reasonable cost as opposed to the various STEM related programs available, which mostly caters to high income families. Dr Kalaivani, who is also Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment’s (FKAB) Director of Program Pemerkasaan Kompetensi Akademik Siswa (PKAS) said that the STEM Transit Centre is expected to be the medium of dissemination of STEM knowledge to most of the people in this country.
